Establishment
The Diocese of Palmas-Francisco Beltrão was erected on 14 May 1959 by Pope John XXIII through the bull Cum Venerabilis Frater, carved from territory previously belonging to the Diocese of Guarapuava and the Archdiocese of Curitiba to serve the expanding Catholic communities in southwestern Paraná.
History
Early Years
Following its establishment, the diocese focused on organizing parishes in frontier agricultural zones, with the first bishop overseeing the construction of basic church structures amid rapid settlement.
Modern Era
In 2019 the see was renamed Diocese of Palmas-Francisco Beltrão by the Holy See to better reflect its two principal urban centers. The diocese has since emphasized formation programs and social assistance in rural areas.
