Establishment

The Archdiocese of Asunción was established on June 1, 1547, by Pope Paul III to serve the growing Catholic population in Paraguay, splitting from the Diocese of Buenos Aires.[1]

History

The archdiocese has a rich history, with significant events including the construction of the Asunción Cathedral, which began in 1845 and was completed in 1848.
