Establishment

The Diocese of Carapeguá was established on January 5, 2000, by Pope John Paul II to serve the growing Catholic population in the Paraguarí Department, splitting from the Diocese of Villarrica.[1]

The diocese has its roots in the early Christian missions in Paraguay. The area was initially part of the Diocese of Asunción and later became part of the Diocese of Villarrica. With the growth of the Catholic population, the need for a separate diocese arose, leading to the establishment of the Diocese of Carapeguá in 2000.[2]
