Saint Cathan
Saint Cathan (also Catan, Caitin; dates uncertain; 6th century AD) was a Scottish Celtic bishop venerated particularly in the island of Bute and in parts of the western Highlands. The town of Kilchattan Bay on Bute is named after him (Cill Chatain, "Cathan's Church"). He is said to have been the uncle of Saint Blane and is associated with the early evangelization of Bute and Argyll. His feast day is May 17.

Biography
Saint Cathan is an early Celtic bishop associated with the Isle of Bute in the Firth of Clyde. He is traditionally identified as the uncle (or relative) of Saint Blane, who was himself one of the great early saints of Bute. Cathan is credited with the Christianization of Bute and the surrounding western Scottish islands and coasts. The village of Kilchattan Bay on the southern tip of Bute preserves his name. He is commemorated on May 17.
