Saint Blane
Saint Blane (also Blaan, Bláán; died c. 590 AD in Kingarth, Bute, Scotland) was a Scottish Celtic monk and bishop who studied in Ireland under Saints Comgall and Cainnech, founded the monastery of Kingarth on the Isle of Bute, and gave his name to the Cathedral of Dunblane. He is venerated as one of the important missionary saints of early medieval Scotland. His feast day is August 11.

Biography
Blane was born on the Isle of Bute, the son of a local chieftain's daughter. According to his hagiography, his mother was the sister of Saint Cathan and sent the boy to Ireland to be educated in the great monastic schools there. He studied under Saints Comgall of Bangor and Cainnech of Aghaboe, two of the greatest Irish abbots of the sixth century. He returned to Scotland, founded the monastery of Kingarth on Bute, and conducted a missionary ministry in southern Scotland. He is venerated as a bishop, though the exact nature and location of his see is uncertain. He died around August 11, 590 AD.
His relics and his name became associated with Dunblane, the town on the River Allan in Stirling that bears his name and whose medieval cathedral preserves his memory. Dunblane Cathedral, built over the site of his original foundation, is one of the well-preserved medieval cathedrals of Scotland.
