Establishment
The Diocese of Presidente Prudente was erected on 16 January 1974 by Pope Paul VI to serve the expanding Catholic communities in western São Paulo state, taking territory from the Diocese of Assis and the Archdiocese of Botucatu.
History
The diocese developed rapidly after its creation amid Brazil’s interior colonization and agricultural expansion. Its first bishop oversaw the construction of the cathedral and the organization of parishes in newly settled areas. Subsequent bishops focused on pastoral formation and social outreach in rural zones.
