Establishment
The Diocese of Jaboticabal was erected on 25 January 1929 by Pope Pius XI through the apostolic constitution *Pastoralis officii*, carved from territory previously belonging to the Diocese of São Carlos do Pinhal and the Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto.
History
The diocese developed rapidly in the mid-twentieth century as the agricultural economy of western São Paulo expanded. Its first bishop, José Gaspar d’Afonseca e Silva, oversaw the construction of the cathedral and the organization of initial parishes. Subsequent bishops focused on expanding Catholic education and responding to the social needs of rural communities. The diocese has remained stable without major boundary changes since its erection.

The Diocese of Jaboticabal covers parts of the western region of São Paulo state, including the municipalities of Jaboticabal, Monte Alto, Taiaçu, and several surrounding towns.
Mother Church
The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Jaboticabal serves as the mother church. The present building was completed in the 1950s in a neoclassical style.
