Establishment
The Diocese of Itapipoca was established on 30 December 2003 by Pope John Paul II through the apostolic constitution "Cum ad aptius", carving territory from the Archdiocese of Fortaleza to better serve the growing Catholic communities in the interior of Ceará.
History
Early Years
Following its erection, the diocese focused on organizing parishes and pastoral structures in a region previously under the direct care of the Archdiocese of Fortaleza. The first bishop, Monsignor Benedito Beni dos Santos, guided initial development until 2010.
Modern Era
Subsequent bishops have emphasized rural evangelization, vocations promotion, and social outreach amid Ceará's semi-arid challenges. The diocese has grown steadily with new parishes and educational initiatives.
