Establishment
The Diocese of Caxias do Sul was erected on 8 August 1951 by Pope Pius XII through the bull "Quo Facilius" to serve the growing Catholic communities in the Serra Gaúcha region, previously part of the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre.
History
Early Years
The territory experienced rapid Catholic growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to Italian immigration. The first bishop, Ângelo Aurélio Mugnol, was appointed in 1952 and oversaw the construction of the cathedral and initial parish network.
