Establishment
The Diocese of Caicó was erected on 25 August 1939 by Pope Pius XII through the bull "Ad Supremum", carved from territory previously belonging to the Archdiocese of Natal to better serve the growing Catholic communities in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte.
History
The diocese developed rapidly after its founding, with early bishops focusing on the construction of parishes and schools amid the challenges of the northeastern Brazilian sertão. It has remained a suffragan see within the Ecclesiastical Province of Natal without further boundary changes or elevation.
