Establishment
The Diocese of Bagé was erected on 8 September 1960 by Pope John XXIII through the bull "Novae Ecclesiae" to serve the growing Catholic population in the southern part of Rio Grande do Sul, drawing territory from the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre and the Diocese of Pelotas.
