Blessed Jakob Gapp
Blessed Jakob Gapp (born July 26, 1897 AD in Wattens, Tyrol, Austria; died August 13, 1943 AD in Berlin, Germany) was an Austrian Catholic Marianist priest who was executed by the Nazi regime for his open opposition to National Socialism and his refusal to remain silent about the incompatibility of Nazism with Christianity. Lured to Spain by Gestapo agents and brought to Germany for trial, he was beheaded by guillotine in Berlin. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 24, 1996. His feast day is August 13.

Biography
Jakob Gapp was born July 26, 1897, in Wattens, Tyrol, Austria. He entered the Society of Mary (Marianists) in 1921 and was ordained a priest in 1930. He taught in Marianist schools in Austria.
After Hitler's rise to power and the Anschluss (annexation of Austria, March 1938), Gapp openly preached that National Socialism was incompatible with Christianity, refusing to give the Hitler salute and warning his students against Nazi ideology. He was banned from teaching and forced to flee Austria, going first to France and then to Spain.
In Spain, Gestapo agents posing as German Catholic refugees lured him across the border. He was arrested, secretly brought to Germany, and tried before the Nazi People's Court (Volksgerichtshof). He was beheaded by guillotine at Plötzensee Prison in Berlin on August 13, 1943.
He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 24, 1996. His feast day is August 13.
