Blessed Conrad of Seldenburen
Blessed Conrad of Seldenbüren (born c. 1070 AD in Seldenbüren, Zürich, Switzerland; died May 2, 1126 AD in Engelberg, Obwalden, Switzerland) was a Swiss Catholic nobleman who co-founded Engelberg Abbey in central Switzerland in 1120 and was the father of the monastic community there. A member of the noble Seldenbüren family of the canton of Zürich, he donated his lands and resources to found the Benedictine monastery of Engelberg ("Angel Mountain") in the Alps of what is now the canton of Obwalden. He is venerated as the founder and patron of Engelberg Abbey. His feast day is May 2.

Biography
Conrad of Seldenbüren was born around 1070 in Seldenbüren (modern Birmensdorf), canton of Zürich, Switzerland, into the noble Seldenbüren family. Around 1120, he co-founded Engelberg Abbey ("Angel Mountain") in the Alps of what is now the canton of Obwalden, donating his family's lands and resources to establish the Benedictine community.
The monastery was established with the monk Adelhelm of Poitiers as its first abbot. Conrad eventually retired to the abbey as a lay oblate and died there on May 2, 1126.
Engelberg Abbey has maintained continuous Benedictine monastic life for over 900 years, a living legacy of Conrad's generosity. His feast day is May 2.
