History
St. Joseph's Seminary and College was founded in 1896 and serves as the major seminary of the Archdiocese of New York.
Campus and Formation
The seminary is located at 201 Seminary Ave., Yonkers, NY 10704. It also operates an extension site at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, 440 West Neck Rd, Huntington, NY 11743, where MA in Theology classes are held. Priestly formation follows three stages — the Propaedeutic Stage, the Discipleship Stage, and the Configuration Stage — organized around four dimensions of formation: Human, Spiritual, Intellectual, and Pastoral. The seminary's library is the Corrigan Library.
Academics
In addition to priestly formation, St. Joseph's Seminary offers graduate theological and philosophical degree programs, including an MA in Theology (also available online), an MA in Catholic Philosophical Studies, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Theology, and a Post-Masters Certificate in Theology, as well as a Permanent Diaconate program. The seminary is undergoing a Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) reaccreditation cycle.
Current Status
The seminary continues to enroll students, with Fall 2026 classes open for registration. In 2026, the seminary ordained a class of priests for the Archdiocese of New York.
