St. John Church is a territorial parish in the Diocese of Norwich, located in Cromwell, Connecticut. Dedicated to Saint John the Evangelist, the church serves the local Catholic community in the greater Hartford area. History

St. John Church began as a mission in 1877, serving Irish and German immigrant families in the Cromwell area (then part of Middletown Upper Houses). The first Mass was celebrated in Stevens Hall on June 3, 1877. It became a parish with its own resident pastor in 1880. The first church building on the current site was dedicated on April 15, 1883. It was destroyed by fire on March 1, 1953. A new church was constructed and dedicated on October 17, 1954 — the first church dedicated within the newly established Diocese of Norwich — by Bishop Bernard Joseph Flanagan. The parish celebrated its centennial in 1982. In 1995, the Diocese invited the Conventual Franciscan Friars (OFM Conv.) to administer the parish. A new parish center with the Divine Mercy Chapel was completed in 2002.
