Born around 1241 into a noble Saxon family, she entered the monastery of Helfta at a young age, where she lived a life of exemplary obedience, charity, and contemplative prayer alongside her sister Saint Gertrude of Hackeborn (abbess) and Saint Gertrude the Great. Her visions, recorded in the *Book of Special Grace* (*Liber Specialis Gratiae*), reveal deep insights into the love of Christ, the liturgy, and the communion of saints.
Hagiographic tradition, primarily preserved through the writings of her community, portrays Saint Mechtilde as a soul of great sweetness and humility who received extraordinary graces, including frequent visits from the Lord and the saints. According to the accounts, she offered her sufferings and prayers for the souls in purgatory and for the Church. She died peacefully on November 19, 1298 (or possibly 1299) at Helfta. Biography

Saint Mechtilde of Hackeborn was born around 1241 in the region of Helfta (near Eisleben), Saxony, into a noble family. She was the younger sister of the future abbess Saint Gertrude of Hackeborn.
Early Life
At the age of seven, Saint Mechtilde was entrusted to the Cistercian monastery at Helfta for education. She soon felt called to religious life and made her profession there, embracing the contemplative vocation with great fervor.
