Saint John Ogilvie
Saint John Ogilvie (born c. 1579 AD in Drum of Keith, Banffshire, Scotland; died March 10, 1615 AD in Glasgow, Scotland) was a Scottish Jesuit priest and the only Scots martyr to be canonized since the Reformation. Born into a Calvinist family, he converted to Catholicism and was ordained as a Jesuit. Returning to Scotland to minister to Catholics there, he was arrested, tortured by sleep deprivation for eight days, and hanged in Glasgow for refusing to acknowledge royal supremacy over the Church in spiritual matters. He was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1976. His feast day is March 10.

Biography
John Ogilvie was born around 1579 in Banffshire, Scotland, into a Calvinist family. He converted to Catholicism around 1596, studied on the Continent (France, Germany, Austria), joined the Jesuits, was ordained a priest in 1610, and returned to Scotland in 1613 to minister secretly to Catholics.
He traveled Scotland under various disguises — presenting himself as a soldier or a gentleman — saying Mass in private houses and administering the sacraments to a small but devoted Catholic community. He was ultimately betrayed by a nobleman pretending to consider conversion.
He was arrested in 1613 and imprisoned in Glasgow and Edinburgh. He was brought before King James VI (James I of England) himself and debated the question of royal supremacy over the Church — the same question that had killed More and Fisher in England. He conceded complete civil obedience to the king but denied that any king could be supreme over the Church in spiritual matters. This position was condemned as treason.
He was tortured by sleep deprivation for eight days — kept awake by needles — but revealed nothing. He was tried, convicted, and hanged at Glasgow Cross on March 10, 1615.
Pope Paul VI canonized him on October 17, 1976. He is the only Scots martyr of the Reformation to be canonized.
