Saint John's Seminary is a Roman Catholic seminary located in Brighton, Massachusetts, with a history dating back to 1884. It provides priestly formation for men discerning the priesthood and, through its Theological Institute, offers graduate theological education to laity, religious, and deacons.

History

The Seminary traces its history back to 1884. Rev. Msgr. Stephen E. Salocks, a 1980 alumnus, served as Rector before becoming Rector Emeritus and continuing as Professor of Sacred Scripture. The Most Reverend Robert P. Reed, Auxiliary Bishop of Boston, was scheduled to be installed as Rector at the Opening Mass of the Holy Spirit on August 26.

Campus and Formation

The Seminary campus is located at 127 Lake Street, Brighton, MA 02135. Priestly formation is organized around four areas: human formation (including a Propaedeutic Program), spiritual formation, intellectual formation, and pastoral formation, each overseen by designated faculty coordinators. The Seminary Chapel holds public Masses, including a Sacred Triduum schedule of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil, as well as a Sunday Mass.

Academics

Priestly Formation students are prepared through the Seminary's four areas of formation. The Theological Institute of Saint John's Seminary offers the Master of Arts in Ministry and Master of Theological Studies degree programs in Catholic theology for laity, religious, and deacons, with courses opening for registration each fall.
