Saint Ivan
Saint Ivan of Bohemia (born c. 800 AD; died c. 880 AD near Beroun, Bohemia, modern Czech Republic) was a hermit who lived in a cave near the Berounka River in Bohemia and became one of the first saints of the Czech lands. He is patron of Bohemia and of Czech hermits. His feast day is June 24.

Biography
Ivan's historical identity is uncertain. Czech tradition describes him as a prince — possibly from Croatia or Dalmatia — who, moved by love of God, left his aristocratic life to become a hermit in the forests of Bohemia. He found a cave near the Berounka River (the site is now called Sv. Jan pod Skalou, Saint John under the Rock) and lived there for many years in prayer, fasting, and solitude.
His legend connects him to Duke Bořivoj I of Bohemia (reigned c. 870–889), the first Christian ruler of Bohemia. When Bořivoj's hunting party found Ivan's cave, the hermit related his story; this encounter is said to have influenced the duke's receptivity to Christianity. Bořivoj was baptized by Saint Methodius around 882 AD — the beginning of the formal Christianization of Bohemia.
The doe that came to Ivan daily is his most characteristic symbol, shared with several other hermit saints in the Celtic and European tradition. When huntsmen pursued her, she led them to Ivan's cave, thus revealing the holy man. The cave, now called the Cave of Saint Ivan, became a pilgrimage site in the medieval period.
He died around 880 AD. His feast is observed on June 24 in the Czech lands, and his cave remains an active pilgrimage site.
