Saint Irene is a name shared by several saints and martyrs in the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. See the individual articles for each:
- Saint Irene of Thessalonica (died 304 AD) — Virgin martyr; martyred with her sisters Saint Agape and Saint Chione in Thessalonica during the Diocletianic Persecution; thrown into a brothel, then burned alive; feast April 3.
- Saint Irene of Portugal (died c. 653 AD) — Portuguese virgin martyr; killed near the Tagus River; the city of Santarém (Sancta Irene) is named for her; feast October 20.
- Saint Irene of Rome (3rd century) — Roman widow who tended the wounds of Saint Sebastian after he was shot with arrows; associated with the martyrdom of Sebastian; feast January 20 (shared with Sebastian).
- Saint Irene the Empress (c. 752–803 AD) — Byzantine empress who restored the veneration of icons; convoked the Second Council of Nicaea (787 AD), which restored the use of holy images; venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church on August 7.
