Saint Hermenland
Saint Hermenland (born c. 637 AD in Noyon, Picardy, modern France; died March 25, 720 AD in Aindre, Loire-Atlantique, modern France) was a Frankish monk who founded the Abbey of Aindre on an island near the Loire estuary and governed it for forty years. He is patron of the Loire-Atlantique and is venerated throughout western France. His feast day is March 25.

Biography
Hermenland was born around 637 in Noyon in Picardy, a city that was then an important episcopal center (the bishop was Saint Eligius, the great goldsmith and court official turned bishop). He was raised at the Frankish royal court and was drawn to the monastic life. He was formed by Saint Eligius and eventually sought to live as a monk.
He made his way west and established a monastery on the Île d'Indre (Aindre), an island in the Loire estuary near the mouth of the river. The location combined natural isolation with access to the Atlantic seaways and the trading routes of the Loire. He governed this community for approximately forty years.
He died on March 25, 720 AD. His feast is observed on the same day — March 25 — which is also the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord; in years when the Annunciation takes precedence, his feast is transferred.
