Saint Flavia Domitilla
Saint Flavia Domitilla (died c. 96 AD) was a Roman noblewoman of the imperial family — a niece of Emperor Domitian — who was exiled and martyred for her Christian faith. The Catacombs of Domitilla on the Via Ardeatina in Rome bear her name and are among the largest and most ancient Christian catacombs in existence. Her feast day is May 12.

Biography
Flavia Domitilla was the granddaughter of Emperor Vespasian and niece of Emperor Domitian. She married her cousin Flavius Clemens, who was also of imperial blood and served as Roman consul in 95 AD. Her Christian faith — and that of her husband — put them in danger during the reign of Domitian (81–96 AD), who periodically persecuted Christians.
The Roman historian Dio Cassius (62.14) records that Flavius Clemens was executed and Flavia Domitilla exiled, both charged with atheism — the Roman accusation against Christians who refused to worship the imperial gods. Eusebius of Caesarea and later patristic sources identify the charge as related to Christianity. She was exiled to the island of Pontia (Ponza) in the Tyrrhenian Sea, where she is said to have been martyred, possibly by being burned alive, around 96 AD — shortly after Domitian's assassination.
She is traditionally linked with the land on the Via Ardeatina where the Catacombs of Domitilla were developed. These catacombs, begun possibly on land she owned or donated, became one of the largest burial complexes in Rome — over 17 kilometers of tunnels, with more than 150,000 burials and some of the earliest Christian paintings. The Basilica of Saints Nereus and Achilleus — her servants who were martyred with her — stands within the complex.
Her feast is commemorated on May 12 together with Saints Nereus and Achilleus.
