Saint Fachanan
Saint Fachanan of Ross (also: Fachtna; died c. 600 AD) was an Irish abbot and bishop, the founder of the monastery at Ross Carbery (Ros Ailithir) in County Cork, Ireland, which became one of the great monastic schools of early Ireland. He is patron of the Diocese of Ross (now part of the Diocese of Cork and Ross). His feast day is August 14.

Biography
Fachanan (Fachtna) was an Irish monk of the 6th century who founded the great school and monastery of Ros Ailithir — the headland of the pilgrim — at Ross Carbery in County Cork. He is considered a saint of the early Irish church who helped shape Munster Christianity.
Tradition associates him with studies under Saint Ita of Limerick at Killeedy in County Limerick — she is one of the great teachers of the Irish saints — and possibly with the Whithorn/Candida Casa tradition in Scotland under Saint Ninian. He is also associated with Saint Brendan of Clonfert and other great figures of the 6th-century Irish monastic flowering.
His monastery at Ross Carbery became one of the major schools of Munster, reportedly training hundreds of students. The site is now occupied by the small Church of Ireland Cathedral of Ross. The Diocese of Ross, historically based here, is now merged with Cork.
His feast day is August 14.
