Saint Euphrasia Pelletier
Saint Euphrasia Pelletier (born July 31, 1796 AD in Noirmoutier-en-l'Île, Vendée, France; died April 24, 1868 AD in Angers, Maine-et-Loire, France) was a French religious foundress who established the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (Good Shepherd Sisters) in 1835 at Angers, devoted to the rehabilitation of women and girls in moral danger. By the time of her death, there were 110 houses and 2,760 religious worldwide; today the Good Shepherd Sisters operate in over 70 countries. She was beatified in 1933 and canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1940. Her feast day is April 24.

Biography
Rose-Virginia Pelletier was born on July 31, 1796, on the island of Noirmoutier in the Vendée — a region scarred by the bloody Vendéen Catholic uprising against the Revolution. She entered the Institute of Our Lady of Charity at Tours in 1814, founded by Saint John Eudes, which was devoted to helping women who had left lives of sin. She was professed as Sister Mary Euphrasia in 1816.
She rose rapidly and showed extraordinary gifts for leadership, pastoral care, and organizational reform. In 1825 she was elected superior of the Tours house, and she expanded the work dramatically. In 1835 she moved to Angers and founded a new centralized congregation — the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd (Good Shepherd Sisters) — which, unlike the original Institute, would be governed by a superior general rather than as a federation of independent houses. This centralized structure enabled the congregation to expand globally under unified governance.
The growth was extraordinary: by 1868, the year of her death, there were 110 houses and 2,760 sisters in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. The sisters operated houses of rehabilitation (Magdalene Homes) for women emerging from prostitution, prisons, or moral danger, as well as schools and orphanages. The Magdalene Houses have since been reformed; the modern congregation focuses on social justice, women's rights, and child welfare.
She died on April 24, 1868, at Angers, beloved by her sisters and the women she had served. Pope Pius XI beatified her in 1933 and canonized her in 1940.
