Saint Deodatus of Nevers
Saint Deodatus of Nevers (also Dié; born c. 650 AD; died June 19, 679 AD in the Vosges Mountains, France) was a Bishop of Nevers who resigned his see to live as a hermit in the Vosges Mountains of Alsace-Lorraine. He founded a monastery in the forest (at the site of the modern town of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges) and was revered for his holiness. He is patron of the Diocese of Saint-Dié. His feast day is June 19.

Biography
Deodatus (God-given) was Bishop of Nevers in the mid-7th century. Feeling called to a more contemplative life, he resigned his see around 669 AD and withdrew to the forests of the Vosges Mountains with a small group of companions. There he founded a small monastic community in a valley that became known as Galilaea (Gallus). The settlement grew; around it grew the medieval town that bears his name: Saint-Dié-des-Vosges.
He died there on June 19, 679 AD. The Diocese of Saint-Dié was created in 1777 with him as its patron. The Romanesque cathedral of Saint-Dié and the adjoining Gothic church of Notre-Dame de Galilée stand on the site of his early foundation.
