Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary is a Roman Catholic seminary in Lower Gwynedd, Pennsylvania, named for Saint Charles Borromeo, and it is the seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. It provides priestly formation for seminarians as well as theological and diaconal formation programs for the broader faithful.
Campus and Formation
Priestly formation at the seminary is organized into a Propaedeutic Stage (including a College Propaedeutic Year and a Pre-Theology Propaedeutic Year), a Discipleship Stage (comprising the College Seminary and Pre-Theology programs), a Configuration Stage (the Theological Seminary), and a Vocational Synthesis Stage known as "Formed in His Heart." The seminary also operates a School of Diaconal Formation, offering theological instruction and pastoral education for diaconal ministry, and a School of Theological Studies, offering theological and spiritual formation for all of the faithful. Academics
The School of Theological Studies offers a Master of Arts in Catholic Health Care Ministry and a Master of Arts in Theology, along with non-degree offerings such as the Catechetical Institute, the Institute for Christian Formation, and the Great Books Program. The seminary maintains several endowed chairs, including the Foley Chair of Social Communications (associated with the Catholic Preaching Institute), the Krol Chair of Moral Theology, and the Francesco Chair of Sacred Music (affiliated with the Church Music Association of America). The seminary references accreditation review by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Current Status
