Saint Calogerus
Saint Calogerus (also Calogero; dates uncertain; 5th–6th century AD) was an Eastern hermit who settled in Sicily and is venerated as the patron saint of Sciacca and of the region around Monte San Calogero in western Sicily. He is said to have come from the Greek East and lived as a hermit in caves on the mountain that now bears his name. Hot springs near his cave were considered miraculous. His feast day is June 18.

Biography
Saint Calogerus came from the Greek East — tradition says from Greece, Constantinople, or Asia Minor — and was part of the Eastern monastic movement of the fifth and sixth centuries. He traveled to Sicily and settled as a hermit in the caves of a mountain in western Sicily (now called Monte San Calogero), near the city of Sciacca on the southern coast. He lived in solitude and prayer for many years, and the hot sulfur springs that issue from the mountain were associated with miraculous healings attributed to his intercession.
After his death his cult grew rapidly in Sicily. The city of Sciacca venerates him as its principal patron. His feast on June 18 is celebrated with a great procession in Sciacca. A sanctuary built on the mountain above the ancient caves became one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in western Sicily.
