Saint Calminius

Saint Calminius (also Calmin; died c. 690 AD) was a Frankish nobleman who became a monk and founded several monasteries in the Auvergne region of France, including the Abbey of Mozac. He is venerated in the Auvergne and is regarded as a patron of the region. His feast day is August 19.

Biography

Saint Calminius was a Frankish nobleman in the Auvergne who, in the late seventh century, renounced his wealth and worldly position to become a monk. He founded the Abbey of Mozac near Riom in the Puy-de-Dôme, which became an important Benedictine monastery in the Auvergne. He is also associated with the founding of other religious establishments in the region. He died around 690 AD and is honored as a patron saint of the Auvergne. His feast day is August 19.
