Saint Brocard
Saint Brocard (died September 2, c. 1231 AD on Mount Carmel, Palestine) was a French Crusader-turned-hermit who served as second prior of the early Carmelite community on Mount Carmel and who obtained from Saint Albert, Patriarch of Jerusalem, the Rule that governs the Carmelite Order to this day. He is one of the founding figures of the Carmelites. His feast day is September 2.

Biography
Brocard succeeded Saint Berthold as prior of the hermit community on Mount Carmel. Like Berthold, he had come to the Holy Land in a Crusading context and was drawn to the eremitical life on the mountain. His most historically significant act was petitioning Saint Albert, Patriarch of Jerusalem, to give the community a formal written rule. Albert wrote the Formula Vitae (Formula of Life) for them—the Rule that, confirmed and modified by Popes Honorius III, Innocent IV, and Eugene IV, became the Carmelite Rule governing all branches of the Carmelite Order to this day.
Brocard governed the community through the period when Albert was writing the Rule (c. 1206–1214) and after Albert's martyrdom (1214). He died on September 2, c. 1231 AD on Mount Carmel. He is venerated as one of the founding fathers of the Carmelite Order.
