Saint Brigid is a name shared by several saints in the Catholic and Celtic traditions. The most prominent are Saint Brigid of Ireland (Brigid of Kildare, c. 451–524 AD) and Saint Bridget of Sweden (Birgitta of Sweden, 1303–1373 AD), though numerous other saints of this name are venerated in the Irish, Scottish, and Welsh traditions.

Principal saints named Brigid

Saint Brigid of Ireland (Brigid of Kildare)

Saint Brigid of Ireland (c. 451–524 AD) is one of the three patron saints of Ireland, alongside Saints Patrick and Columba. She founded the great double monastery of Kildare, is associated with the perpetual fire and with Brigid's Cross, and is venerated on February 1—the ancient feast of Imbolc. For her full life see the main article Saint Brigid of Ireland.

Saint Bridget of Sweden (Birgitta of Korsholm)

Saint Bridget of Sweden (1303–1373 AD) was a Swedish mystic, foundress of the Bridgettine Order, and patron of Europe. She is sometimes listed as "Saint Brigid of Sweden" in sources following the older anglicization of her name. She is venerated on July 23 (feast) in the Roman Catholic Church. Her Revelations are among the most widely read mystical texts of the late medieval period.

Other saints named Brigid

Various minor saints of this name are venerated locally in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. These include Brigid of Abernethy (Scotland) and various holy women whose veneration overlaps with that of the great Brigid of Kildare.
