Saint Brandan

Saint Brandan is an alternate form of the name Saint Brendan, used particularly in Welsh, Cornish, and Breton traditions. In these traditions, the name refers primarily to Saint Brendan of Clonfert (c. 484–577 AD), the Irish monk known as "Brendan the Navigator," though local Welsh and Breton saints of the same name may also be venerated under this form.

In Welsh, the name appears as Brandan or Ffrancon, and churches dedicated to the saint in Wales and Cornwall use this orthography. The Breton town of Saint-Brandan (Côtes-d'Armor) preserves this spelling.

For a full account of the saint's life and the Navigatio Sancti Brendani, see Saint Brendan.
