Saint Bassian
Saint Bassian (died January 19, 413 AD in Lodi, Lombardy, Italy) was the first Bishop of Lodi in northern Italy and a friend of Saint Ambrose of Milan. He was known for his personal holiness, his pastoral care of his diocese, and his association with Ambrose, the great bishop of Milan whose influence shaped the entire north Italian church in the late fourth century. His feast day is January 19.

Biography
Bassian is said to have come originally from Sicily or the eastern Mediterranean. He was appointed the first Bishop of Lodi (Laus Pompeia) in Lombardy, a city in the Po valley south of Milan. He became a friend and colleague of Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, who dominated the ecclesiastical life of northern Italy in the late fourth century. Their friendship is recorded in sources connected to the Ambrosian church.
Bassian governed the Diocese of Lodi with pastoral zeal and personal holiness. He died on January 19, 413 AD, and is venerated as patron of the city of Lodi. His relics are preserved in the cathedral of Lodi.
