Saint Baldegundis

Saint Baldegundis (also known as Baudegunde or Baldegund; died c. 7th century) was a Frankish abbess venerated in the Poitiers region of France. She is associated with a monastery in or near Poitiers in what is now the Vienne department of western France and is remembered as a holy woman of the Merovingian period who governed a community of religious women. Her feast day is February 10.

Details of her life and abbacy are not recoverable from surviving contemporary documents; she appears in local hagiographic and martyrological tradition associated with Poitiers.

Biography

Saint Baldegundis was a Frankish abbess of the seventh century, venerated in the Poitiers area of France. Poitiers was one of the great centers of early Frankish Christianity, home to the shrine of Saint Hilary of Poitiers and, later, to the community associated with Saint Radegund. Baldegundis governed a religious community there and was venerated locally after her death.
