Saint Antoninus of Florence
Saint Antoninus of Florence (born March 1, 1389 AD in Florence, Italy; died May 2, 1459 AD in Fiesole, Italy) was a Dominican friar, Archbishop of Florence (1446–1459), humanist theologian, moral philosopher, economist, and one of the most important ecclesiastics of 15th-century Italy. He was a pioneering economic thinker who addressed questions of just price, usury, and commercial ethics, and was a close friend of Cosimo de' Medici and the humanist circle of Florence. He was canonized by Pope Adrian VI in 1523. His feast day is May 10.

Biography
Antonino Pierozzi was born March 1, 1389, in Florence. He entered the Dominican Order at age 15 after the remarkable test of memorizing Gratian's Decretum within a year. He rose through the Dominican Observant movement and became prior of San Marco, Florence, which Cosimo de' Medici refurbished under his direction — the project that gave Blessed Fra Angelico his greatest commission.
He was appointed Archbishop of Florence by Pope Eugenius IV in 1446, despite his attempts to decline. As archbishop he was known for personal poverty, pastoral visits during plague, organized charity, and close engagement with the humanist world of Medicean Florence.
He was confessor and friend of Cosimo de' Medici the Elder. His Summa Theologica Moralis contains pioneering analyses of economic ethics, just price, and commercial morality that make him a foundational figure in Catholic social thought.
He died May 2, 1459, at Montughi near Florence. Pope Pius II attended his funeral at San Marco. He was canonized by Pope Adrian VI in 1523.
