Saint Allucio
Saint Allucio (born c. 1070 AD; died October 23, 1134 AD near Pescia, Tuscany, Italy) was an Italian layman, innkeeper, and hospitaller who devoted his life to the care of travelers and pilgrims on the roads of Tuscany, ransoming Christian captives from the Moors, and serving the poor. He was not a monk or cleric but a married laymanwho used his resources and energy entirely in charitable works. He is venerated as the patron of Pescia and of the surrounding area. His feast day is October 23.
Saint Allucio represents the lay holiness of the medieval period—the path of sanctity followed through works of charity in ordinary life rather than through monastic enclosure. His devotion to the corporal works of mercy, including the ransoming of captives, made him a beloved figure in Tuscany.
