Saint Agathangelo Noury
Blessed Agathangelo Noury (also known as Blessed Agathangelo of Vendôme, Agathange de Vendôme, or Agathangelo da Vendôme; born 1598; died August 7, 1638) was a French Capuchin friar and missionary who was martyred in Ethiopia while on a mission to restore communion between the Ethiopian Church and Rome. He was beatified by Pope Pius XII on October 3, 1954. His feast day is August 7.
Agathangelo was born in 1598 in Vendôme, France. He entered the Capuchin Order and was sent as a missionary to the Near East and Ethiopia. Together with his companion Blessed Cassian of Nantes (Cassiano da Nantes, O.F.M.Cap.), he worked to bring the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church into union with Rome. The two friars were martyred in Ethiopia — subjected to violence and killed for their Catholic faith and missionary activity — on August 7, 1638. Both were beatified together by Pope Pius XII in 1954.

Occupation
Agathangelo and his companion Cassian of Nantes were sent to Ethiopia as missionaries of the Capuchin Order, with the goal of working toward reunion between the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church and the Roman Catholic Church. Agathangelo and Cassian's mission took place in this dangerous post-expulsion climate.
