Redemptoris Mater Seminary of Dallas is a diocesan missionary seminary of the Diocese of Dallas, located in Dallas, Texas, that forms international seminarians affiliated with the Neocatechumenal Way for ordination to the priesthood.
History
The seminary was established on December 8, 2004, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, after Bishop Charles V. Grahmann of Dallas signed the Decree of erection in the Cathedral Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It was first located at Immaculate Conception Church in Grand Prairie, Texas, before moving, after two years, to a building on the campus of the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity on Cockrell Hill Road in Dallas, where it remains. In its first 20 years, 21 priests and one deacon were ordained for the Diocese of Dallas from the seminary.
Campus and Formation
The seminary is one of the Redemptoris Mater seminaries, a model that originated in Rome under Pope John Paul II, with the first statutes approved in 1988 by Cardinal Poletti, Vicar of Rome. These seminaries are diocesan in authority, and seminarians follow the same educational formation as other diocesan seminarians while also being formed through the Neocatechumenal Way. Their vocations are drawn from different nations, and upon ordination, priests are available to serve wherever their bishop assigns them, including in other dioceses that request assistance. Once ordained and incardinated, priests are under the authority of their bishop rather than the Neocatechumenal Way.
Current Status
As of the source material, 28 seminarians from 5 different countries were studying at the seminary. The seminary marks 22 years since its founding with an anniversary gala scheduled for November 8, 2026, at the Fairmont Dallas, benefiting the formation of future priests for the Diocese of Dallas.
