Saint Mark, known in Sacred Scripture as John Mark, was a native of Jerusalem and a member of the early Christian community. His mother, Mary of Jerusalem, kept a house that served as a gathering place for the first disciples, and it is traditionally identified as the site where the Apostles assembled after the Resurrection.
