In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Jesus, meek and humble of heart,
hear us.
From the desire to measure our family’s worth by its size alone,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From envying those blessed with many sons and daughters,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From the bitter longing that our quiver is not as full as others’,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From the fear that others will see our small family as incomplete or less blessed,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From the temptation to compare our few children with the large families around us,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From any pride that would make us resent the noise and abundance of bigger households,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
That we may cherish the precious gift of each child You have entrusted to us,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That we may rejoice sincerely when we see large, thriving families,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That we may embrace the limits of our family size as a special cross You have allowed for our sanctification,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That we may raise our few children with even greater love, attentiveness, and holiness,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That others may be surrounded by many children while we remain small in number,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That we may offer our small family as a living sacrifice, trusting that quality of love, not quantity, is what You ask of us,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That in our humility we may become a light to other small families, console the childless, and radiate the joy of total trust in Your Providence,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
O Mary, Mother of the Word Incarnate, pray for all families, great and small.
St. Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family, pray for us.
St. Anne and St. Joachim, parents of the Blessed Virgin, pray for us.
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, You who grew up in the Holy Family of three, teach us that a home filled with love is never too small. In our inability to have more children, make our few souls deeply fruitful in charity, humble in spirit, and joyful in hope.
Through the intercession of the Holy Family, grant us the grace to desire only what You desire for us, and to cherish every child You have given as an eternal treasure. Amen.
