Litany for Those Grieving After Pregnancy Loss
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Jesus, meek and humble of heart,
hear us.
From the heavy waves of sorrow that threaten to overwhelm us,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From the empty arms and the silent nursery that ache with absence,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From guilt and the tormenting “what ifs” that assail us,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From anger at our bodies, at circumstances, or even at God,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From the fear that we will never feel joy again,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
From the temptation to isolate ourselves in grief,
Deliver us, O Jesus.
That we may entrust our little one fully to Your merciful embrace in heaven,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That we may find gentle healing for our hearts in the wounds of Your Passion,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That this cross of pregnancy loss may draw us into deeper union with You,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That our marriage may be knit together more tenderly through shared tears and hope,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That we may cherish the brief, sacred gift of this child’s life forever,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That we may offer every tear and every pang of longing as a living sacrifice,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
That in our grief we may become a source of compassionate comfort to others who mourn their little ones,
Jesus, grant us the grace to desire it.
O Mary, Mother of Sorrows, who held your dead Son in your arms, pray for all parents grieving pregnancy loss.
St. Joseph, comforter of the sorrowful and protector of the Holy Family, pray for us.
St. Anne and St. Joachim, pray for us.
All Holy Innocents in heaven, pray for us.
St. Gianna Molla, pray for us.
Let us pray:
Lord Jesus, You who wept at the tomb of Lazarus and who promised that those who mourn shall be comforted, draw near to us in the pain of pregnancy loss. Hold our precious child safely with You, heal the wound in our hearts, and restore hope to our spirits. Grant that the life we carried, though brief on earth, may bear eternal fruit and that one day we may rejoice together in the resurrection.
Through the intercession of the Holy Family, grant us the grace to desire only what You desire, trusting in Your tender Providence and the promise of eternal reunion. Amen.
