The Basilica of Saint Lawrence in Asheville, North Carolina, was designed by Spanish architect Rafael Guastavino, known for his work on the Biltmore Estate. Construction began in 1905 and was completed in 1909 under his son after Guastavino’s death. Elevated to a minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1993 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is a defining Catholic landmark of western North Carolina in the Diocese of Charlotte.
