History
The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI), an international apostolic religious congregation of priests and brothers dedicated to preaching Christ's message and serving the poor and marginalized, came to San Antonio in 1849. Oblate School of Theology was founded in 1903 and has since trained missionaries for over 120 years. Since the early days of preparing Oblate Missionaries for service within Hispanic communities along the Texas-Mexico border, OST has maintained more than 40 years of engagement in Hispanic/Latino ministry.
Campus and Formation
OST's campus is located at 285 Oblate Drive, San Antonio, TX 78216, and includes the Whitley Event Center, the Donald E. O'Shaughnessy Library, and the Pat Guidon Center, which is home to the Ministry to Ministers (MtM) Sabbatical Program offering accommodations for those on sabbatical.
Academics
OST offers more than 23 degrees and programs, including the Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry (offered in English and Spanish), Master of Arts in Theology, Master of Arts in Spirituality, Master of Arts in Sacred Scripture, Ph.D. in Spirituality, and Doctor of Ministry, as well as certificate and online programs and Programas en Español. The school is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada, is approved for a Comprehensive Distance Education Program, and is a member of NC-SARA. OST describes its community as international, intercultural, bilingual, and ecumenical, with students representing more than 10 countries.
