Establishment
The Military Ordinariate of Canada was erected on 17 February 1951 by Pope Pius XII through the apostolic constitution *Solemne habetur* to meet the pastoral needs of Catholic service members. It succeeded earlier military vicariates and received its current structure under the 1986 apostolic constitution *Spirituali militum curae*.
