The Mexican American Catholic College (MACC) is a Catholic institution in San Antonio, Texas, offering bilingual, bicultural formation in pastoral and Hispanic ministry. History
MACC began as the Mexican American Cultural Center in 1972, at a time of social change and renewal in the Catholic Church following Vatican Council II, amid the broader Mexican American and minority struggle for civil rights in the 1960s and 1970s.
Campus and Formation
MACC's campus offers on-campus housing, including dormitories, a cafeteria, and a community kitchen, along with internet-enabled meeting rooms, functioning as an academic and spiritual retreat setting. The college has enrolled international students from countries including Colombia, Mexico, the Philippines, Venezuela, and Cameroon.
Academics
MACC confers post-secondary degrees in Pastoral Ministry, including the Associate of Arts (AAPM), Bachelor of Arts (BAPM), and Master of Arts (MAPM), as well as a Master of Arts in Chaplaincy. It also offers undergraduate certificates in Diaconal Studies, Lay Ecclesial Ministry, Intercultural Ministry, Pre-Theology, and Acolyte and Lector Formation, along with continuing education and lifelong learning programs. Degree programs combine cultural and pastoral ministry studies with concurrent English and Spanish language acquisition, and are offered consistent with the teachings of the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church, under an exemption granted by the State of Texas from Chapter 132.002(a)(2) of the Texas Education Code.
Current Status
As of 2026, MACC continues to operate active programs and hosts events such as the Fall 2026 Convocation Mass (August 21, 2026) and its Annual Deacons Gala (November 6, 2026), which supports its Deacon Formation Program.
