The Franciscan School of Theology (FST) is a Roman Catholic school of theology located on the University of San Diego campus in San Diego, California, operated by the Franciscan Province of St. Barbara. Its mission is to prepare women and men for professional ministry in the Roman Catholic Church, for careers in theological education, and for lives dedicated to solidarity with those on the margins of society and the Church.

Campus and Formation

FST's facilities are located in the Coronado Building on the University of San Diego campus at 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA 92110, with visitor parking available in the West Parking Structure. A weekly Mass, open to all, is held Wednesdays during the school year at 4:30 pm in the Founders Chapel. The Princeton Review ranked FST's campus in its "Top 5" for "Most Beautiful Campus." Students have opportunities for daily and weekly prayer, seminars, and retreats as part of their spiritual formation.

Academics

FST offers the Master of Theological Studies (MTS), Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts (MA), a concurrent MDiv/MTS dual degree, and an online MTS in Franciscan Theology. It also offers a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Catholic Social Thought in Practice, a three-year professional doctoral program offered jointly with the University of San Diego, as well as a non-degree online Certificate in Franciscan Theology and continuing education and personal enrichment courses. The school reports a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio, a 91% average retention rate, and students from 20 countries represented on campus.

Current Status

FST continues to admit students and operates in affiliation with the University of San Diego. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (Tax ID: 94-1745605) and is part of the Franciscan Province of St. Barbara.
