Establishment
The Diocese of Teófilo Otoni was erected on 27 November 1960 by Pope John XXIII through the bull Cum Clamoribus, carved from territory previously belonging to the Archdiocese of Diamantina to serve the growing Catholic population in northern Minas Gerais.
History
The diocese developed rapidly after its founding amid Brazil's mid-twentieth-century population growth and internal migration.
