Diocese of Santo Amaro
The Diocese of Santo Amaro, a suffragan diocese of the Latin Rite, is an active diocese located in the southern region of the city of São Paulo in Brazil. Established on 15 March 1989 by Pope John Paul II, it forms part of the Ecclesiastical Province of São Paulo and ministers to a large urban Catholic population. The diocese is currently led by Bishop José Carlos Chacorowski, CM, who was appointed in 2023.

Establishment
The Diocese of Santo Amaro was erected on 15 March 1989 by Pope John Paul II to serve the growing Catholic population in the southern districts of São Paulo, taking territory from the Archdiocese of São Paulo.
History
The diocese was created amid the rapid urban expansion of São Paulo in the late twentieth century. Its territory includes densely populated neighborhoods that required new pastoral structures for evangelization and community support.
