Establishment
The Diocese of San Bernardo was established on 13 July 1987 by Pope John Paul II through the apostolic constitution "Quo Facilius" to serve the growing Catholic population in the southern metropolitan area of Santiago, carved from territory previously belonging to the Archdiocese of Santiago de Chile.
History
Early Years
Following its erection, the diocese quickly organized parishes and pastoral structures under its first bishop, Orozimbo Fuenzalida y Fuenzalida, who served from 1987 until 1996. Subsequent bishops continued expanding educational and charitable works amid Chile's social changes.
Modern Era
