Establishment
The Diocese of Petrópolis was erected on 13 April 1943 by Pope Pius XII through the bull "Quo Evangelicae Veritatis", carved from territory previously belonging to the Archdiocese of Niterói to better serve the growing Catholic population in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro state.
