Establishment
The Diocese of Lorena was erected on 31 January 1950 by Pope Pius XII from territory previously belonging to the Archdiocese of São Paulo and the Diocese of Taubaté.
History
The diocese developed rapidly after its establishment, with the construction of its cathedral and expansion of parishes to meet the needs of the growing population in the Paraíba Valley. It has remained a suffragan see within the Ecclesiastical Province of Aparecida since its creation.
